Thanks for the reply, Josh. I was able to fix the issue by applying background-color: white to the * block. Perhaps that was originally in your CSS as well? Also, regarding my first issue with the File object, I posted to the Flying Saucer mailing list and an issue has been opened on it: https://xhtmlrenderer.dev.java.net/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=228
