I have a commercial app that is uses webstart.
It's a database application that needs access to files.
The main reason for using java webstart is automatic update of clients.
All clients run on ships with many terminals which may not doc for months so installing updates on the client is a difficult task. With a simple transfer to the onboard webserver we can update all clients aboard every ship. I personally don't understand why this is not in more wide spread use. It's made my job alot easier and it's sexy to tell a client that I can update his software where ever he is in the world.
