Open sourcing Java is mainly about getting the JVM onto more devices, and Java utilized by more applications.
The cult of GNU won't allow the JVM in their distributions unless it is released under a GNU-friendly licence, and GNUista developers won't use Java libraries unless they are also released under a GNU-friendly license.
I am under the impression that the CDDL is GNU-friendly-enough... so it seems to make sense for Sun to use this license exclusively and free us from having to delve into the terms of multiple licenses.
If I am incorrect, and GNU opposed the CDDL, then I'd change my vote.
