I think would be great if Sun could help out with the Eclipse project. I personally prefer Eclipse as an IDE over NetBeans, but NetBeans is definitely moving in the right direction and 4.0 looks promising.
One thing I (and Sun too I think) don't like is SWT. I think Eclipse would be a better product if it would use Swing instead. Maybe a good task for Sun developers would be to port the Eclipse UI to Swing. It would be a great example on how to create a good UI using Swing, and maybe Swing will gain more popularity after some unfair criticism (from some open source communities). |
