Eclipse chose to create SWT to get around the inherent performance problems in Swing and succeeded quite well in that.
I'd rather see a working group of both powerhouses (and possibly others like Borland as well) creating a common plugin standard outside the JCP (and then maybe submitting it direct to the JCP as a fait accompli.
Working within the JCP is far too slow and would effectively kill the product (which might be the intention of Sun all along in this given their statement that having several tools platforms in competition is not a good thing...). |
