Kirill--I just finished teaching a class on open source software development, and when I was done, I saw an awful lot of VMWare boxes containing those tell-tale orange Ubuntu window decorations in the laptops of the "90%" (actually about 30%) of my students who used Windows. I guess they didn't relish the prospect of locating a copy of Visual Studio 2003, or whacking through Cygwin/mingw issues :-) If you want to hack the JDK, it probably is worth learning how to do the Linux build process. Kudos to Elliotte for seeing the light and writing this article. |
