JavaOne Community Corner Podcast j1-2k8-mtW08: OpenEco

by Alex Dethier, August Detlefsen
07/18/2008

OpenEco is a global on-line community providing free and easy-to-use tools allowing users to assess, track, and compare their energy performance, share proven best practices to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) usage and encourage sustainable innovation. In an effort to help change our planet, we’ve open sourced the OpenEco platform and made the API available to encourage others to create more functionality and tools which can be added to openeco.org. Current tools include content management, user login and registration, file upload, out-of-the-box templates and GHG tracking which has a charting engine, community comparison, and an Excel input/export feature. Being modular, new functionally can easily be added by creating web applications that conform to specific structural guidelines.

This Mini-Talk will:

  • Review modular structure
    • Show how to ensure authenticated users
    • Show how to use the template mechanism
