ArticlesDon't Make me Eat the Elephant Again
Bruce Tate's essay on the future of EJB3. He recognizes the creators of EJB for introducing services outside of the scope of our business logic, but he searches for a way to accomplish this in a better, faster, and lighter way. He hopes that the spec leaders will consolidate persistence for J2SE and J2EE under a single, complete standard for the first time. Jun. 15, 2004

Thanks...: java.net has been good to me for all of these years, but it's time for a change. I'm moving my blog to blog.rapidred.com. Posted by batate on May 28, 2006 at 08:18 PST | Permalink
We should learn from Active Record: I've long been an ORM bigot. I tend to think ORM is the answer to questions that haven't even been asked yet. But a couple of months of Active Record development is changing the way I think about wrapping. We can learn from Ruby on Rails in this area. Popular vs. Great: Cedric Beust posted an interesting blog about the Fan Syndrome as it pertains to Ruby on Rails. It got me thinking, why are some great frameworks scorned, and why are some poor frameworks popular? Posted by batate on December 17, 2005 at 09:56 PST | Permalink

Why the JCP will do the right thing by JDO 2.0: In mid January, the JDO 2.0 public draft was voted down by the JCP. This issue will soon come up for a vote again, and a no-vote could kill JDO. But this won't happen. Posted by batate on February 22, 2005 at 07:44 PST | Permalink

Time, wisdom and AOP: Like a number of people, I've been asked if AOP is the next big thing. And I've been wondering myself exactly when it's going to "pop". What's missing? Posted by batate on October 13, 2004 at 13:27 PST | Permalink

A strange car: I've been a little perplexed about some of the responses calling for improvements of Java simplicity and testability. I'll blog about that later. First, I wanted to tell you about shopping for a strange car. Posted by batate on July 14, 2004 at 22:09 PST | Permalink

A little heresy: I just read Hackers and Painters, and it's got more than enough heresy in it. Great book. I think we're in a wonderful age of heresy, where it's getting easier to buck the establishment to get things done. Posted by batate on July 08, 2004 at 03:54 PST | Permalink

People of the elephant: Since I wrote the "elephant" article just over a week ago, my mailbox has been flooded. Sure, some of the mail was hate-mail. But a whole lot of you understood the spirit of the article, and it got us talking. Posted by batate on June 23, 2004 at 09:29 PST | Permalink
