News: IBM: Open Process Isn't Open CodeMar. 16, 2004 Source: OpenEnterpriseTrends No surprise here, but has as the JCP celebrates a more open JCP process executive member IBM reminds us that an open process does not mean open code. "'The JCP is inching toward something, little by little, by little by little,' Dr. Bob Sutor, IBM's director of Websphere infrastructure told OET late this week. 'What we're trying to do is talk about the real fundamental end point here. Java is 8 or 9 years old now; it's mature. Now, we want to discuss with Sun about how we can move to a point where there is an official Open Source Java implementation [of Java].' IBM sent Sun a letter last month asking for a 1-on-1 meeting to discuss a roadmap for opening up Java code. 'I think we accept that letter as input into the continuing conversation into ways we can improve the JCP,' Aaron Williams, JCP executive relations manager, told OET. 'We're excited now about the launch of [JCP] 2.6, [and] we're not going to take a vacation We're going to continue to work on finding ways to make the process better for developers and build a stronger community. The work we’re doing now does provide a more open process, and that's a great step.'" Return to java.net News. | ||
