i don't think that majority of developers will use java 7 because of closures that are just disgusting. i plan to use just the "performance" releases of java without any new syntax. and if sun will just add a lot of other new syntactic crap, i'll rather switch.

I think this is an important distinction... The JVM is definitely a part of my future, but the Java Language is becoming just a bit player... Appropriate for some tasks, but increasingly being replaced by Domain Specific, Declarative, or Scripting Languages for a lot of my day-to-day needs.

It's reasonable that 6.0 will be out on Mac OS X by then, and it will be in any case too early for 7.0. The tough question is which version at the end of 2009...
