What's Happening in Java Today

Technology Poems: The java.net top weblog introduces a new feature: our Poetry Corner. The first contribution is from Tom Clements. Tom's work as a Java poet was featured several years ago in the JavaOne conference coverage produced by JavaWorld magazine. We've got work by other poets on tap. Feel free to send your own to Poetry Corner as long as they focus on technology and don't contain references to that man from Nantucket. » Read more

In Scripting the Enterprise, Dejan Bosanac takes a quick look at the origins of each language and outlines the added features that make them more natural partners. Bosanac sees advantages for both PHP and Java developers. His advice for Java developers is "soon you

JSR 223: Scripting Pages in Java Web Applications: There have been several articles at java.net on scripting and Java. JSR 223 is designed to make it easier to integrate scripting in Java web applications. This JSR is designed to provide scripters with a "standard mechanism to access information developed in the Java platform. This Specification will describe how to write portable Java classes that can be invoked from a page written in an scripting language, including details on security, resources and class loader contexts. The specification will cover both the case where the Java clases are instantiated in a Java Servlet container and the case of a Java VM." Applications to join the Expert group are still being accepted.
