Java Communications OpenIM: The Java Communications community home page leads with an announcement of the release from the java.net project OpenIM, "a java implementation of Jabber(tm)/XMPP instant messaging server." The blurb reports that up next is "OpenIM - Byte streaming, and then VoiceIP. A good feature server could allow near real time voice/video chat using OpenIM server. Exploring the Wiki Ward Cunningham talks about the ideas behind wikis and what they are well suited for in an interview with Bill Venners. In Exploring the Wiki . Cunningham explains " In creating wiki, I wanted to stroke that story-telling nature in all of us. Second, and perhaps most important, I wanted people who wouldn't normally author to find it comfortable authoring, so that there stood a chance of us discovering the structure of what they had to say."
Technical Debt Martin Fowler blogs about Technical Debt explaining that "doing things the quick and dirty way sets us up with a technical debt, which is similar to a financial debt." Feedback to his post includes the comment from Scott Wood that "Technical Inflation could be viewed as the ground lost when the current level of technology surpasses that of the foundation of your product to the extent that it begins losing compatibility with the industry."
